KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — Police arrested six Umno Youth leaders today over the party’s demonstration outside the DAP headquarters last Thursday.

Those arrested include Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii, Cheras Umno Youth chief Johari Yazid, Federal Territories Umno information chief Ghulam Muzaffar and Bandar Tun Razak Umno Youth chief Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar.

“We were told to appear at the Wangsa Maju police station at 2pm and when we showed up we were arrested,” Mohd Razlan told The Malay Mail Online when contacted.

The Umno man said that the police are investigating them under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

“All six of us have been released on bail as of 8.30pm. We don’t know when we will be charged the police say they will inform us once they are done with their investigations,” Mohd Razlan added.

On May 22, a group of about 50 members from the Kuala Lumpur chapter of Umno Youth reportedly demonstrated in front of the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur over remarks made by DAP’s RSN Rayer in the Penang legislative assembly.

When debating the Penang governor’s speech on May 20, Rayer uttered the words “celaka Umno” (damn Umno), triggering outrage among the Malay party’s lawmakers.

The next day, some Umno members trespassed into the Penang state assembly while it was in session, demanding an apology from Rayer, but finally left, frustrated.

On May 21, another group of 50 Umno members demonstrated outside the DAP headquarters in the national capital.

They allegedly threatened to set the building on fire and reportedly vandalised property belonging to the opposition party.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Superintendent Nor Azman Muhammad Yusuf had previously said the suspects will be investigated for violating the Peaceful Assembly Act.

“They are also being probed under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief and damage and Section 506 for criminal intimidation,” he was quoted as saying last week.
