GEORGE TOWN, May 23 — Police must arrest and investigate the Umno members who threatened to burn down the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur during a protest yesterday, party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said.
Condemning the violent demonstration by Umno Youth Federal Territory members at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Lim today also claimed that death threats were made by the group yesterday.
“We feel this is a dangerous situation as they destroyed a signboard, tore their own memorandum and threw it at our DAP MP who was there to accept it and then threatened to burn the building down,” Lim told a press conference here today.
“It is not only inhuman to act in such a way but not human,” he said in condemning the group’s actions.
Yesterday, the group of about 50 Umno Youth members had demonstrated outside the DAP headquarters demanding that its Seri Delima state assemblyman RSN Rayer retract and apologise for saying “celaka, celaka, celaka Umno” during his debate at the Penang legislative assembly on Tuesday.
The Penang chief minister also questioned if this is the “new liberal face” that Umno is trying to present.
“There is no hope for Umno if these are the kinds of people they are grooming to be leaders of the country,” he said.
On Wednesday, Penang Umno Youth members demonstrated at the legislative assembly here before about a dozen of them breached the gates and stormed into the House while shouting for Rayer.
Lim today urged DAP members to remain calm and not to provoke Umno members over the incidents.
