GEORGE TOWN, May 20 — No action will be taken against Bukit Gelugor independent candidate Abu Backer Sidek Mohammad Zan who allegedly kicked and rammed against Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s official car this afternoon.

In a report on the whole incident, security guard Tiraya Abd Rahim alleged that Abu Backer had acted wildly when he kicked and deliberately ramming his body against the vehicle that had stopped outside the state legislative assembly.

“It is an offence for him to threaten the chief minister in such a way but we decided not to take any action against him as we do not want to be involved in his method of campaigning for the May 25 by-election,” she said.

Recounting the afternoon incident, Tiraya said Abu Backer first approached the front gates of the state legislative assembly demanding to see Lim to hand over some documents to him.

“The state assembly officer received the documents and handed it over to the chief minister’s political secretary, Wong Hon Wai,” she said.

She added that Wong told the officer to advise Abu Backer to set an appointment if he really wanted to meet with Lim.

After conveying this to him, she claimed that Abu Backer refused to leave but continued to cause a ruckus outside state assembly building while demanding to see Lim.

He waited outside the gates until he saw Lim leaving the premises in his official car, PG1, and started to block the vehicle at about 2.15pm.

“A total of six security guards tried to stop him from going near the car and somehow he managed to get past us and jumped in front of the car,” Tiraya said.

She claimed Abu Backer kicked the car even though it had stopped moving by then.

“He then intentionally rammed into the car and pretended to fall on the ground as if he was hit by the car. He also pretended to be injured while rolling on the road,” she said.

She said an officer from the state Health Department who checked on him called for an ambulance and after about 20 minutes, Abu Backer was taken to the hospital.

It is learnt that Abu Backer was taken to the Penang Hospital for treatment and as at 7.30pm, he is still in the hospital but when contacted, his assistants refused to reveal the status of his condition.

Abu Backer is in a four-corner fight for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat with DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh Deo, Parti Cinta Malaysia’s Huan Cheng Guan and another independent candidate Mohd Nabi Bux Mohd Sathar.

The by-election, on May 25, is triggered by the death of the late MP Karpal Singh in an accident last month.
