TELUK INTAN, May 19 — Police have opened two investigation papers in connection with two incidents which occurred during today’s nomination of candidates for the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election.
Hilir Perak Police chief Goh Kok Liang said one case involved an individual who allegedly used obscene words on policemen while the second case involved party members who did not obey police instructions.
However, overall, the nomination of candidates was under control although there were several incidences of misunderstanding and provocation between party supporters, he told reporters at the Hilir Perak Police headquarters here.
Goh advised all candidates and party supporters to always observe the law.
He said legal action could be taken under the Election Offences Act 1954 if anyone created a disturbance or broke the rules governing elections.
The by-election is a straight fight between Datuk Mah Siew Keong, 53, of the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, 27, of the DAP. — Bernama
