ARAU, May 17 — Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today said that the police will not allow any element associated with terrorist movement to take root in the country.
He said the police were vigilant and managed to detect such a threat at an early stage and efforts were made to prevent it from spreading in the country.
“We are always working closely and sharing information with the relevant agencies, as well as monitoring activities by locals and foreigners who are believed to be involved in terrorism,” he told reporters at Istana Arau here.
Khalid was met after receiving the Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Perlis (SPMP), which carries the title “Datuk Seri”, from the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, in conjunction with the ruler’s 71st birthday celebration.
Malaysia, he said, was still a peaceful country and free of militant threat.
He said the police had adequate manpower and capable of handling threats that could undermine the country’s security. — Bernama
