KUANTAN, May 16 — A two-year old boy died while his mother and grandmother sustained serious injuries, when a car they were travelling in rammed into a buffalo at Km 25, Belimbing-Maran road near Paloh Hinai, Pekan last night.

The deceased was identified as Syed Mohd Syed Mohd Haika Qawi while his mother Rafidah Hashim, 38, and grandmother Zabedah Dahan, 66, were being treated at the Maran Health Centre.

Pekan district police chief Supt Yahaya Othman said the car was driven by his father, with seven family members on board during the 7.30pm incident.

His father Syed Mohd Haika Syed Abd Wahab, 39  and three others Syed Muhd Qhayyum, 10, Sharifah Nurnillahi Kasheefah, 7, and Sharifah Nurkhaleeda, 5, escaped unhurt. 

“The father lost control and collided with a buffalo, when they were heading to their residence at Kampung Serekam near Maran, Paloh Hinai. The impact caused the son, who was with his mother at the front passenger seat, to be seriously injured,” he told Bernama.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
