GEORGE TOWN, May 16 — A Home Ministry enforcement personnel has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for investigation into alleged demand for protection money for selling of pirated VCDs and DVDs in Penang.

He was among two men detained in a special operation by MACC yesterday.

According to a source in MACC, the other man arrested is an operator of a premise selling VCD and DVD, who attempted to bribe the authority from taking action against him for operating without a licence.

“The two men, in their 40s, are detained to assist investigation and the statements were recorded at the State MACC headquarters,” he added.

Meanwhile, Penang MACC director, Datuk M. Samarajoo, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the arrest, but declined to elaborate. — Bernama
