KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 — Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today called on the people of Terengganu to be calm and patient in facing the political developments in the state.
“Insya-Allah (God willing) we will find the best way to resolve this crisis,” said the Deputy Prime Minister in his Twitter website today.
Muhyiddin is also the Umno deputy president and Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman.
Terengganu is now in the limelight following the resignation of Datuk Seri Ahmad Said as the state's mentri besar yesterday, besides announcing that he was leaving Umno and becoming an Independent State Assemblyman for Kijal.
Also following Ahmad's footstep were Ghazali Taib (Ajil) and Roslee Daud (Bukit Besi).
With the latest development, BN now has 14 seats in the 32-seat Terengganu State Legislative Assembly, PAS (14), PKR (1) and Independent (3).
Following Ahmad's resignation, Seberang Takir Assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman was appointed as the new Terengganu mentri besar.
He was sworn in before the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin at Istana Syarqiyyah, Kuala Terengganu, last night.
The change of mentri besar in Terengganu was not a spur-of-the-moment decision as Ahmad pledged to step down as the mentri besar one year after his reappointment in May last year so as to enable the new mentri besar to strengthen the Barisan Nasional (BN) in Terengganu where the coalition had only secured 17 of the 32 seats in the legislative assembly. — Bernama
