MCA waves white flag ahead of Bukit Gelugor race

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 ― MCA is passing on the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat by-election despite being the traditional holders of the seat up until losing it in 2004.

English daily The Star reported party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan as saying MCA decided against contesting in order to focus on its campaign against PAS’s bid to roll out hudud in Kelantan.

Ong is expected to make the announcement soon.

DAP this morning announced Ramkarpal Singh Deo, the third son of the seat’s late holder, Karpal Singh, as its candidate

The Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat fell vacant after Karpal was killed in a road crash on April 17.Karpal had held the seat under DAP since 2004, winning huge majorities of 21,015 votes in 2008 and 41,778 votes in 2013 against MCA.
