KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 — The police have advised organisers of an anti-Goods and Services Tax rally to change their venue to a more suitable place.

The rally is scheduled to be held at the Dataran Merdeka on May 1.

Dang Wangi police chief, ACP Zainuddin Ahmad said the change of venue was imperative as many issues of security and public order in Kuala Lumpur needed to be taken into consideration before allowing the organisers to proceed with the gathering at the square.

“We are concerned that if it was held there, it could cause tension and hinder public convenience.

“Moreover, Dataran Merdeka cannot be used as it is currently undergoing renovation works,” he told a press conference here today.

Zainuddin hoped the organisers would hold the rally at either Padang Merbok or Merdeka Stadium.

He said the police had so far, received 31 reports opposing the proposed rally. — Bernama
