KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 — PAS information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar volunteered today its party’s services to Putrajaya, saying Malaysia too has experts who can aid investigations into the mystery of the missing Flight MH370.
The Pokok Sena MP offered the services of party member Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, formerly the head of Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Aerospace Department, whom Mahfuz said had been involved in laboratory projects with Rolls Royce, the maker of the Malaysia Airlines plane’s engine.
“The government should tap into our own resources as well to get to the bottom of this. Don’t let our people remain in the dark,” he said.
Ahmad Samsuri is currently political secretary to the Islamist party’s president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
The Malaysian Cabinet is deliberating today the Transport Ministry’s proposal to kickstart an international probe on the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
Acting Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the move to form an international panel of experts for the probe is part of Malaysia’s pledge to stay transparent in its handling of the aviation disaster, despite criticisms from the international community.
“Its our ongoing effort for transparency... to show to the world that Malaysia has nothing to hide,” he told a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) this afternoon.
Malaysia has been under intense scrutiny since flight MH370 disappeared from radar screens in the early hours of March 8, earning especially heavy criticism from China for its handling of the aircraft’s mysterious disappearance.
MH370 disappeared on March 8 while en route to Beijing. It was then carrying 239 people on board.
