KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 — Selected areas and facilities are exempted from the water rationing exercise are given upon the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) approval, said Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).
It said the exemption list had been revised to include dialysis centres, government and private hospitals, Port Klang, the KL International Airport (KLIA), Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang.
The Putrajaya administrative centre, the Selangor State Secretariat, Kuala Lumpur, and the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Power Station, Kapar, said Syabas in a statement.
Syabas said consumers in Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang were not affected by the first stage of the water-rationing schedule as their sources of water supply were not the Cheras Mile 11 and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants, which had been contaminated by ammonia in Sungai Langat.
“Even though they live close to consumers receiving water supply from both plants, their source of water supply is not Sungai Langat,” it said.
Syabas said likewise consumers in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang who were not getting water supply from the Sungai Selangor Dam and Klang Gates, were not affected in the third and fourth stages of the water rationing exercise.
The scheduled water distribution is extended following directive from the Selangor government based on Span’s advice.
“The decision is subject to water levels in reservoirs and pollution of Sungai Langat due to fluctuation in the ammonia level,” it said.
Details on the water-rationing exercise is posted on Syabas portal, www.syabas.com.my. — Bernama
