BEIJING, March 30 —The Malaysian government does not treat the Chinese next-of-kin of passengers on board Flight MH370 differently than those from other countries.

Deputy Chief of Mission of the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing, Bala Chandran Tharman said the priority of the high-level team was to address the needs of the family members and the delegation would continue such efforts.

Speaking at a briefing to family members of the passengers here today he said there was no discrimination to the Chinese families.

Apart from requesting that the presentation to be written in Chinese, they also requested the high-level team to provide detailed assets of the vessels and aircraft of the 26 countries involved in the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The technical questions raised by the Chinese relatives centred around the emergency locator transmitter (ELT) of the aircraft if the emergency equipment could be turned off due to human intervention or system malfunction.

Meanwhile Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Maj-Gen Datuk Affendi Buang said the 29 Chinese relatives, who arrived in Kuala Lunpur today would be accommodated in the Bangi-Putrajaya Hotel tomorrow together with the Chinese next-of-kin, who were there earlier.

Currently, the 29 people are being accommodated in the Holiday Villa in Subang.

The high-level team, led by RMAF air operations commander Lt-Gen Datuk Seri Ackbal Abdul Samad, is tasked to brief the families of the latest development on the SAR for the missing Boeing 777-200ER.

The team also comprised of representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the RMAF, the Department of Civil Aviation and Malaysia Airlines. — Bernama
