KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 — Aerial missions will resume searching for signs of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 after efforts were called off due to bad weather yesterday, Australian maritime authorities said today.

No details were available at the usual time on the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s website, however, except a single tweet to announce the planned resumption.

“The #MH370 search will resume this morning. More details to come later today,” AMSA wrote on its @AMSA_News Twitter account.

Thunderstorms and gale-force winds grounded the international air search for wreckage from MH370 yesterday, frustrating the effort yet again as Thailand reported a satellite sighting of hundreds of floating objects.

Tropical cyclone conditions that the Australian Meteorology Bureau earlier predicted would hit the search zones arrived as forecast, forcing AMSA to recall sorties to look for the debris.

Thailand’s Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency said it had satellite images taken on Monday of 300 objects, ranging from two to 15 metres in size.

Late last night, Japan also said one its satellites have caught signs of debris in the area.

The satellite spotted around 10 objects floating in a 10 km radius, according to Japan’s Cabinet Satellite Intelligence Centre. It said the largest object was around 8m long and 4m wide.

Australia was the first to announce satellite imagery of possible debris related to MH370 in the area, followed by China and France.

The search for the plane that disappeared on March 8 while bound for Beijing with 239 on board is now converging on a remote location in the southern Indian Ocean 2,500km southwest of Perth, after Malaysia announced on Monday that satellite data showed the flight “ended somewhere” in the waters there.

The airlines told families of the plane’s passengers and crew that it “assumed beyond reasonable doubt” that the plane was lost with no survivors.
