Sharp rise in dengue fever cases in Pahang

KUANTAN, March 12 — Dengue fever cases in Pahang from early January to March 9 has increased by 124 cases or 99.2 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.

Pahang Director of Health, Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said 249 dengue fever cases were recorded during the period compared to 124 cases in the corresponding  period last year.

Kuantan district recorded the most with 141 dengue cases followed by  Temerloh (32), Jerantut (23), Maran (17), Raub (9), Bentong (7), Pekan (6), Bera (5), Lipis (4), Rompin (3) and Cameron Hinghlands (2).

The four active areas were Kampung Razali and Taman Mutiara Mahkota  (Kuantan) and Felda Kota Gelanggi and Taman Bukti Permai (Jerantut), she said in a statement today.

The Health Department had conducted fogging on over 184,000 premises, inspected over 67,000 premises and added abate in 22,000 premises to destroy the larvae.

Norhizan urged the public to increase awareness by joining activities to destroy the Aedes mosquito held in every district monthly.

Under the Destruction of Disease Bearing Insects Act 1975, residents who breed Aedes in their premises face fine of not more RM10,000 or jail not more two years or both. — Bernama
