KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 — Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) says it has patched up two water pipes responsible for the unscheduled disruption of supply to Petaling, Klang and Shah Alam.

However, the water firm was reported as saying that a full recovery of the water supply for the Klang Valley will not happen immediately.

“It will take some time for the affected areas because the level of reserved water in Bukit Dengkil and Bukit Jelutong Baru has not recovered fully,” Syabas Assistant General Manager (corporate communications and public affairs) Priscilla Alfred was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian today.

She added that the long drying process has also caused the delay in fixing the pipes.

The first incident involved the Bukit Dengkil pump pipe water supply to the Bukit Jelutong Baru water catchment, and the second involved the pipe that supplied treated water from the water treatment plant at Phase 3 Selangor River to the Bukit Jelutong Baru water catchment area.

Alfred said Bukit Dengkil received its treated water supply from LRA Selangor River at Phases 1, 2 and 3 which saw a reduced amount of treated water supply from the affected raw water supply.

She added that a few areas in Petaling and the whole of Shah Alam had experienced low pressure or a reduced water supply since March 7 following reports of other pipes springing leaks.

Alfred said 78 per cent of affected water supply for 70,000 users in a few areas in Petaling and 95 per cent for 90,000 users in the whole of Shah Alam have fully recovered. Only the supply for Shah Alam Section 27 is expected to recover fully.

Syabas says it will continue to monitor the situation for any related problems.
