KUALA LUMPUR, March  11 ― Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak outlined today the ruling coalition’s National Reconciliation Plan, even after Pakatan Rakyat (PR) rescinded its offer to reciprocate last night.

According to Najib, the plan consists of two parts: the formation of the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), and social grassroots movements such as the recently-formed Unity Squad.

“Obviously, we are a government that walks the talk and have a big heart. We must rise above party politics, put aside differences in ideology, doing the best for the public by putting development and nation-building efforts as the main core agenda,” Najib said in a written reply here in Parliament here.

Najib’s reply today was not read out during Question Time since the inquirer, PAS’ Marang MP Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang was absent.

PR MPs are boycotting the Dewan Rakyat sitting today to protest the overturn of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s second sodomy case’s acquittal by the Court of Appeal last week.

This comes as Anwar said in a rally last night that PR has now chosen to fight Barisan Nasional (BN) head on instead of trying to offer an olive branch.

Anwar’s insistence last night followed his sodomy case, and DAP veteran lawmaker Karpal Singh’s sedition conviction in late February.

Najib explained today that the national reconciliation plan is based on four core thrusts: social, politics, government and international relations.

“Indeed, the government has done its best in building good relationships with every party and groups, including states ruled by opposition parties,” the prime minister said.

To make his point, the Pekan MP gave examples of Putrajaya’s meet with Kelantan, the water deal signed with Selangor, and the opening of Penang’s second bridge.

The 30-member NUCC was formed on November 30 last year, after a slew of issues and statements that touched on racial sensitivities that followed a fractious national election in early May.

The Unity Squad was launched on March 9, 2013.
