PETALING JAYA, March 11 — The Meteorological Department foresees that the haze situation will remain under control for the rest of the week without cloud seeding carried out.

Its director-general Alui Bahari said the haze situation will not get worse until Sunday unless forest fires take place.

“If any forest fire happens, the air quality will definitely deteriorate,” he said.

Alui said forest fires in Selangor and Perak must be avoided to ensure the air quality does not get worse.

“This means that if there is no fire, there is no haze in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor,” he said.

He said dry conditions are expected to last until the middle of this month and rain is forecast after that.

The department forecasts rain in the Federal Territory on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The air pollutant index (API) in five areas was unhealthy as at 5pm yesterday.

The highest API readings were recorded in Port Klang at 137, Banting (118), Nilai (107) Seremban (102) and Putrajaya (106).
