BEIJING, March 10 — A relative of a passenger on the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370 has expressed unhappiness over what he claimed to be no assistance from Chinese officials.

The man in his late 20s was furious that no Chinese official had approached the relatives from the time the Boeing 777-200ER disappeared over the South China Sea at 1.30am on Saturday while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

“We don’t see any Chinese official coming to see and talk to us,” he told reporters here today.

The man, who declined to give his name, also claimed that the search-and-rescue operation in Malaysia was slow.

“Nothing can be done but wait, even if we get to Malaysia at this time. It is best for us to wait here for the latest developments,” he said.

MAS has arranged registration for the visa application for the Chinese families who intend to fly to Malaysia.

It would up to the families to choose whether to fly to Malaysia or stay here, MAS spokesman Ignatius Ong Ming Choy told at a media conference earlier, adding that the carrier would provide any necessary assistance.

MAS Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, went missing en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing about an hour after taking off from the KL International Airport at 12.41am Saturday. It should have landed in Beijing at 6.30am. — Bernama
