KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 — Actress Hanez Suraya Abdul Aziz has filed a lawsuit claiming that her former personal assistant (PA) had made defamatory statements against her on social media.

The 28-year-old actress filed the lawsuit through Mssrs Harjit Sandhu at the High Court Registrar’s Office here in early November last year, and named Mohd Fairus Mohd Lazim, 28, as the defendant.

Members of the media obtained the copy of the lawsuit from her lawyers, Harjit Singh and Wan Nurliyana Abdul Rahman, after the case was mentioned before Deputy Registrar Adibah Abdul Kadir in chambers today.

Hanez Suraya also attended the proceeding.

According to Wan Nurliyana, the court set April 17 for case management.

In her statement of claims, the actress claimed that Fairus had defamed and humiliated her via an Instagram account ‘DashaSultan’ and Twitter handle @Dasha_Sultan between Sept 30 and Oct 15 last year.

She also claimed that Fairus had repeatedly said negative things about her to their friends and even contacted reporters just to gossip about her.

Hanez Suraya claimed that on Oct 16, she sent a letter demanding Fairuz to make a public apology to her within 48 hours, and that they had met the following day where he agreed to apologise and immediately did so via Twitter and Instagram.

However, the actress said on Oct 19 and 22, Fairus retweeted some statements from other Twitter handles, which she claimed was done with the intention to humiliate her.

Hanez Suraya claimed that certain words used in the statements implied that she was a snobbish, close-fisted, disrespectful, materialistic, hypocrite and immature actress.

She is seeking general, special and exemplary damages, cost and interest and other relief deemed fit by the court.

She also seeking injunction to prevent the defendant from making other defamatory comments against her. — Bernama
