GEORGE TOWN, March 7 — Police recorded a statement from state exco member Dr Afif Bahardin today in regard to his Twitter remarks on March 4 that allegedly belittled police.

Penang CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said the investigating officer in the case recorded Dr Afif’s statement at his office in Komtar at 10am today.

He said police also kept Dr Afif’s handphone, which was believed to have been used to upload the allegedly controversial remarks.

Police have received three reports and recorded statements from three people relating to Dr Afif’s twitter remarks.

The case is being investigated under 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948, he said when contacted here today.

Dr Afif, who is Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Rural Development and Health exco chairman, had allegedly uttered in his tweet, “Penjenayah bunuh polis itu tidak menghairankan, tetapi bila polis yang sepatutnya menegakkan undang-undang membunuh tahanan, itu masalah. (Criminals killing policemen is not surprising, but when police who should uphold the law, kill detainees, that is a problem.)” — Bernama
