NEW DELHI, March 6 ― A Malaysian tourist, V. Manohar, 64, was stabbed with a knife during a robbery attempt at a hotel in Arumbakkam, a residential locality in Chennai, the capital of India’s Southern State of Tamil Nadu.
Manohar, who is a businessman from Selangor, suffered injuries on his head, neck and hands in the robbery attempt that took place on Tuesday night by someone he befriended a few days earlier, The Times of India reported.
According to the report, the hotel employees came to his rescue when he cried for help and also nabbed the accused, a 19-year-old Industrial Training Institute student as he was trying to escape with the stolen valuables.
Police returned Manohar's belongings and sent him to a private hospital for treatment, while the accused was taken to the Arumbakkam police station and questioned.
The Arumbakkam police have registered the case and the suspect was remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate court in the city yesterday.
The English daily said the man met Manohar at the Tirupati temple, which is 168km away from Chennai and they became friends.
Both travelled together by bus to Chennai on Tuesday.
As Manohar wanted to visit some historic places in Chennai, he booked a room in a hotel in Arumbakkam and invited the man there, where the incident took place. ― Bernama
