PETALING JAYA, March 2 — The National Service Training Department will be mobilising members of the National Service Volunteer Brigade (BSKN) to assist with the distribution of water to households affected by the water crisis.
The BSKN will provide assistance to help people to carry water into households to help ease the burden of those affected by the crisis, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein in a statement today.
“In the next two weeks, the NS trainees will be mobilised to help the people affected by the water shortages as part of their community service module,” The Star quoted Hishammuddin as saying.
Hishammuddin also assured that there would be collaboration across ministries and agencies to assist residents facing the water crisis in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
“The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) is ready to arrange nine water trucks with the capacity of 10,000 litres for the people in need,” said Hishammuddin.
“The Malaysian Highway Concession is meanwhile ready to move six water trucks with the capacity to hold 5,000 to 15,000 litres of water to critical areas,” he added.
“Local authorities are willing to move personnel and assets in the event that the assistance is still not enough,” said Hishammuddin.
The Star report also states that he said all parties would be working closely with Syabas in regard to the locations and areas in need of assistance.
He said his office held a special meeting involving the ATM, Malaysian Highway Authority, Syabas, the National Security Council (NSC), the Association of Malaysian Highway Concession, and the Department of Local Government to coordinate aid.
