Philippine President Aquino accorded state welcome

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — Visiting President Benigno S. Aquino III of the Philippines was accorded a state welcome at Parliament Square here today.

Aquino, who is on a two-day visit to Malaysia beginning yesterday, arrived at the square at 9.40 am and was welcomed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. 

Following Aquino's arrival, the national anthems of the two countries were played. This was followed by the firing of a 21-gun salute.

Aquino then inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by 107 officers and men of the 1st battalion Royal Malay Regiment led by Maj Mohd Herdi Ismail.
