IPOH, Feb 27 — Police arrested two women, aged 36 and 37, who were part of a 19-member syndicate that used false documents to secure donations for two years, with the total haul coming to more than RM500,000.

Perak Commercial Crimes Investigation Department chief Supt Maszely Minhad said the duo were detained while collecting donations at a school here at 9.40am on Tuesday.

“The documents claimed the donations were for building a hostel and surau at an orphanage in Simpang Pulai,” he told reporters here today.

He added that police were alerted about their activities by the Perak Islamic Religious Department. — Bernama
