TAWAU, Feb 26 ― A 13th general election candidate claimed trial in the Magistrate's Court here today to two counts of cheating a 59-year-old man of RM90,000 last year.
He allegedly committed the offence at a bank in Jalan Mahkamah Kompleks Fajar, Tawau at around 3.30pm on August 28 last year.
Mohd Jeffry is also accused of inducing the same man to deposit RM60,000 into his account by misleading the victim to believe that he could obtain an approval letter for him to build a futsal court.
He allegedly committed the offence at the same place at around 3pm on September 4 last year.
Magistrate Suhaila Selag set bail at RM20,000 with two sureties and impounded the accused's passport pending disposal of the case.
The prosecution was represented by Insp Ahmad Hafizul Helmi while the accused, by counsel Chong Kian Ming. ― Bernama
