KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 ― The next date fixed for a divorce case involving PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar which was filed against her husband Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar is March 11.
The date was fixed by Syariah judge Ab Malek Awang after meeting lawyers in chamber at the Lower Syariah Court in Jalan Sri Hartamas today, The Star said.
Nurul Izzah’s counsel Normawaddah Ramli told repoprters that they are in the midst of discussing the matter with hopes to resolve it amicably, but mutual divorce proceedings are still ongoing under Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.
According to The Star, Nurul's husband, Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar, had arrived alone at 10.30am.
Nurul Izzah, 33, had sought to divorce 35-year-old Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar in the petition filed in December.
The Star added that the Lower Syariah Court at Jalan Sri Hartamas had confirmed that Nurul Izzah, the eldest daughter of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, filed the petition under the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.
The case, number 14001-055-0023-2014, was first mentioned before Syariah Judge Ab Malek Awang on January 21.
Nurul Izzah and Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar were married on May 9, 2003, and have a seven-year-old daughter and five-year-old son.
The English daily also mentioned that the couple’s family had earlier on persuaded them to reconcile.
March 11 is the nomination day for the Kajang by-election in which Nurul’s father, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is contesting.
