KUALA LANGAT, Feb 15 — Over 10 schools in Selangor have been experiencing clean water supply disruption following the closure of the water treatment plants in Batu 11, Cheras and in Bukit Tampoi due to ammonia pollution in Sungai Langat since last month.

Selangor Education Department deputy director Mohd Salleh Mohd Kassim said among the schools involved were three daily boarding schools here, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Teluk Datuk, Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Changgang and Sekolah Menengah Sains Banting.

He said this to reporters after attending the handing over ceremony of a multi-purpose vehicle to Sekolah Kebangsaan (Orang Asli) Sungai Judah, courtesy of Suzuki Malaysia Automobile, in Carey Island here.

The plant in Cheras, which had resumed operation on Feb 2, was closed two days later when the level of ammonia content increased to 6.40PPM (part per million) compared to the allowed level of 1.50PPM, while the plant in Bukit Tampoi remained closed since Jan 28 as the level of ammonia was still at 4.20PPM. — Bernama
