2 held for wildlife poaching, say cops

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 — The Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) seized the carcass of a panther and mousedeer and arrested two men suspected to be involved in wildlife poaching in Karak, Pahang yesterday.

According to a statement from the department, the duo were arrested by enforcement officers from Perhilitan’s hadquarters at a bus stop in Kampung Pareh at 11pm.

“They were in possession of the carcasses. Also seized were a parang, a sling bag, tow bullets, two handphones and motorcycle,” the statement said.

They were liable to be fined not more than RM50,000 or jailed not more than two years if convicted under wildlife protection laws, it added. — Bernama
