KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today expressed his sadness over the death of former national midfielder Wong Choong Wah this morning.

“Wong was one of Malaysia’s football greats who played in the 1972 Munich Olympics. Sad to hear that he has passed away,” he said in a Twitter post.

The legendary football player suffered a heart attack at home in Sri Petaling here and was rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital at 3 am.

The death of Wong at age 67 is all the more saddening as today is the first day of the Chinese New Year.

He is expected to be laid to rest on next Monday.
