IPOH, Jan 29 — A motorcyclist was torn to shreds today after his machine was rammed from the rear by a heavy vehicle that dragged him for 43 kilometres from here to Tapah on the North-South Expressway in a hit-and-run accident.

The body parts of Ahmad Mahmud, 25, of Kampung Baru Majidi, Serdang, Kedah, were found on the expressway near Ipoh and 43km away in Tapah following the accident which is believed to have occurred at 2.15am near the Ipoh Selatan exit of the highway.

Ipoh Public Order and Traffic chief DSP Wan Sharuddin Wan Omar said Ahmad was riding from his family home in Kedah to Tanjung Malim where he worked at the Proton car manufacturing plant in Proton City.

Police found chunks of human flesh and bones, a black right shoe and a badly damaged Honda EX5 motorcycle at the Ipoh Selatan exit of the expressway, he said.

At about 3am, the police were notified of chunks of human flesh found on the expressway near Tapah, he said, adding that police also recovered a black left shoe, a ring, a watch and a sling bag containing a driving licence and a Proton City employment card.

Wan Sharuddin said the police highway patrol unit was trying to trace the heavy vehicles that had travelled south on the expressway during that period to assist in the investigation.

“The expressway was wet due to rain during the time of the accident,” he said.

He said the body parts were sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here and were claimed by the family for burial in Kedah.

Ahmad’s mother, Junaidah Baharuddin, 54, when approached by reporters at the hospital mortuary, said the second of her six children had had a meal of tomyam which he had bought at an eatery before riding off to Tanjung Malim.

She said he had given her a hug and told her that he would work through the Chinese New Year festive period if he had to do overtime duty but would return home if he was off duty.

Ahmad’s younger sister, Nur Hijrah, 22, said she had cooked ‘sambal tumis sotong’ (sauteed squid sambal) for her brother.

“He told me that if anything were to happen to him, we should use the insurance money. I scolded him for talking like that,” she said. — Bernama
