SINGAPORE, Jan 25 — The parents of a Malaysian woman who was detained for allegedly crashing through a security barrier at Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday, will be visiting her at the Institute of Mental Health this afternoon (IMH).

Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore, Datuk Husni Zai Yaacob told Bernama that the 28-year-old woman’s parents had been given the permission by the Singapore authorities here to meet her.

The parents came here after being notified by the High Commission that the suspect, who is reported to have a history of mental illness, was in custody of the Singaporean authorities.

On January 17, the woman, from Kampung Baharu, Bukit Jenun in Pendang, Kedah, was alleged to have gate-crashed past the Singapore Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex in Woodlands here.

Over the next three days, she disappeared without a trace in the republic, despite a nationwide police alert to track her down until the authorities caught up with her at the ministry’s compound.

Husni Zai said the High Commission would continue to provide the necessary consular assistance to ensure her rights and well-being were protected. — Bernama
