BUKIT MERTAJAM, Jan 21 — Machang Bubuk PKR assemblyman Lee Khai Loon has defended his action of stuffing kangkung into the gaping mouth of an effigy resembling the prime minister, last week. 

He said it was a “constructive way” of expressing the sentiments of the people to the government, given the recent price increase.

“It is the duty of an elected representative to provide feedbacks about the feelings of the rakyat  and that was what I did,” he said.

“It was aimed to criticise the prime minister and the government’s policy.”

Lee declined comment when asked if he was willing to apologise to Najib.

On Saturday, several state Umno members, led by its information deputy chief, Datuk Reezal Merican Naina Merican, staged a protest in Seberang Jaya against Lee’s action.

More than 300 people gathered in front of his service centre to express their unhappiness.

The event turned unruly when two men hurled abuses at the demonstrators who pounced back.
