KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 — All bus operators at Hentian Duta and Pudu Sentral have to relocate to the Southern Integrated Terminal (TBS), says Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.

“There's no definite date yet but I don't think we can delay it for too long. But we don't want to do it too fast either. This will only inconvenience everyone,” he said after launching an awareness campaign on the SPAD Industry Code of Practice (SPAD ICOP) here today.

Syed Hamid said TBS provided more systematic and comfortable conditions with a variety of facilities.

Apart from easing traffic congestion in the city centre, the relocation was also meant to curb ticket touts at the present stations, he added.

The decision to relocate the bus services from the two stations had earlier received various reactions as well as requests urging SPAD to review the matter.

It is understood that there are about 1,000 trips from Hentian Duta heading south with an average of 30,000 passengers a day.

The SPAD ICOP campaign is aimed at raising awareness and adhering to the 90 km/j speed limit which has been set as a condition to obtain bus and goods vehicles operators licence.

Syed Hamid said more than 3,000 operators have undergone the programme since November 2012 to October last year.

On a related development, he said 12,600 express buses, lorries and taxis have been issued compounds from June 2011 to date for various traffic offences. — Bernama
