KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 — A man, believed to be mentally disturbed, was injured when shot by the police when he attempted to run down two policemen on motorcycles with his car in an incident at Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras, yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department deputy head ACP Khairi Ahrasa said the incident occurred about 11.20pm when the policemen ordered the 31-year-old man, who was behaving in a suspicious manner, to stop his car as he was leaving a car park at the Bandar Tun Razak LRT station.
He said the man, who was driving a Proton Iswara car, did not stop and hit one of the policeman who tried to stop him.
“The man drove on, with the other policeman trailing behind, until a factory area at Desa Tun Razak when he stopped at a dead end.
“However, when the policeman approached him, he reversed the car, almost hitting the policeman, who then fired a shot which smashed through the wind screen and hit the suspect on the left thigh,” he added.
Khairi said the first policeman was slightly injured and sent to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital for treatment.
“Based on preliminary investigation, the man is believed to be suffering from mental problems,” he added. — Bernama
