KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 — The role of school relations officers (PPS) comprising policemen of various ranks has been extended to 200 primary schools around Kuala Lumpur starting today.

Earlier, PPS were assigned to 298 secondary schools around KL since it was introduced on October 1 last year.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh said police had placed 200 personnel with the ranks of Constable, Lance Corporal, Corporal and Sergeant at the schools according to their size and problems.

“If there are many students, a higher ranking personnel such as a sergeant will be assigned... I hope with PPS, the problem of crimes in schools will be alerted faster for speedier action to be taken,” he told reporters after a dialogue session with primary school headmasters at Cheras police College here.

According to him, PPS would visit the school twice a month and if there were problems the PPS would submit a report to KL police contingent head office.

“I have directed officers at the Crime Prevention and Eradication Department to monitor all PPS as well as the reports submitted by them,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said there were no reports of robbers using the pretext of delivering hampers to the house of customers to gain entry into such premises.

“Police will also be monitoring the issue via social websites,” he said. — Bernama
