Floods: Number of victims in Rantau Panjang declines

KOTA BARU, Jan 15 — The number of flood victims in Rantau Panjang dropped to 1,451 this morning compared with 1,968 last night.

According to the state government’s official portal, the evacuees comprised 563 families who were now staying at nine relief centres.

Following good weather for the past three days, more victims were expected to return to their respective homes in stages.

The water level in Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang receded to 9.65 metres which was still above the danger level of nine metres.

The alternative road to Jeli at Panglima Bayu had been reopened to traffic.
