KANGAR, Jan 3 — It was a bad start to the year for a teacher and a student when the student who was reported to have injured the teacher with a sharp weapon at a secondary school in Kuala Perlis, yesterday, was arrested earlier today.
Kangar district police deputy chief DSP Ismail Che Isa said, said the Form Five student was arrested at his home in Kuala Perlis at about 1 am and a sharp weapon similar to a 'kerambit' (knife with a curved blade) believed to be used in the incident was also seized.
In the 7am incident, the student allegedly used the homemade weapon to hurt the 50-year-old male teacher on the face because he rebuked the student for sporting a punk hairstyle.
Ismail said the teacher sustained a scratch below his right eye and sought treatment at the Kuala Perlis Health Clinic.
“We've got a remand order to hold the student until Monday,” Ismail said today when asked to comment on the incident that shook the first day of school yesterday.
Meanwhile, the teacher involved declined to comment and told reporters he left it to the police to handle the case. — Bernama
