MUAR, Dec 28 — The planned illegal assembly to topple the government on New Year's eve is a desperate act to seek the people's support.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Razali Ibrahim said the opposition need not wait for the date to hold the assembly if they have the people's support.
“The opposition want to hold the assembly on that day because they know the people normally come out to usher in the new year.
“They want to show that the people support them but there are no issues which can be used to topple the government,” he told reporters after opening an annual general meeting of Muar District Village Headmen Association, here today.
Razali stressed that they should not lump Malaysia together with other countires because the government is not cruel and unfair to the people.
The Umno Institution of Higher Learning Bureau chairman urged students enjoying their semester break not to be involved in the assembly but to spend their time wisely.
“If the students are wise, they will not take part in the illegal assembly as toppling the government can be done during the general election,” he added. — Bernama
