KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 — Barely three days before MCA delegates choose their new set of leaders, outgoing Youth chief Datuk Wee Ka Siong has admitted his bid for the deputy president’s post is a battle.

Wee admitted his opponent, Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai, was clearly more experienced than him.

“I always respect my opponent and it is a fact: Lim has more experience than me,” said Wee.

“But I feel we both have an equal shot, I would say a 50-50 chance of making it. It boils down to the delegates at the end of the day.”

Wee said this after chairing the Youth central committee meeting at Wisma MCA yesterday.

The 45-year-old also refuted claims that he was “too young” to be No 2.

“I don’t think I am that young. Gan Ping Sieu is only 47 and yet he is contesting the presidency.

“I believe I am qualified for the job.”

Deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai now joins Gan and former president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat in the race for the top post.

Wee, meanwhile, gave his blessings to Selangor Youth chief Chong Sin Woon and Batu division Youth chief Datuk Goh Gaik Meng who are contesting the Youth chief post.

“They both worked with me in the Youth central committee and I do not think they would have any problem continuing my efforts in the movement.”

Earlier, Wee said the Youth assembly today would debate 17 proposals.

These include education, the economy, the new electric tariffs and the Selangor menteri besar’s recent pay rise.
