KUANTAN, Dec 18 — Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has allocated about RM10 million to repair and install new substations and power stations which were damaged by the floods that struck three states recently.
Deputy Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the cost also involved the upgrading and replacement of damaged parts at the stations in the states of Pahang, Terengganu and Johor.
“During the floods recently, 1,299 substations in Pahang were affected and inundated including the Kuantan Utara main intake power station, and we had to disconnect electricity supply for 10 hours to more than 76,000 consumers throughout Pahang on December 4 to prevent undesired incidents.
“The estimated cost for repairs and new installations of substations in Pahang was RM7.7 million and the cost of repairs in three states totalled RM10 million which were expected to be completed within a month’s time,” he told reporters after witnessing the handing over of TNB contributions to the Pahang state government, here today.
At the event, TNB, which was represented by its Senior General Manager, Corporate Affairs and Communications, Datuk Ir Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Amin, handed over a contribution of RM250,000 to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob for the Pahang flood disaster fund. — Bernama
