KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 17 — Starting next year, Terengganu state assemblymen and senior state government officers will be required to take their oaths of office before the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the state Mufti, with the Muslims holding the Quran.

When announcing this, Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said the move was aimed at ensuring that the assemblymen and senior state officers would be sincere and honest in discharging the duties and responsibilities entrusted to them.

“After that, if they still want to commit it (bribery), it’s up to them, it’ll be between them and Allah. What matters is we have told them the danger, have briefed them about the consequences and the prevention methods,” he told reporters after attending the MACC Transformation Programme to prevent corruption with Terengganu state assemblymen here today.

The programme was aimed at giving clear information and explanation about efforts to prevent corruption, including legal aspects.

Ahmad said he did not want to see the state assemblymen to make any ‘mistake’ that would cause them to be charged with bribery. — Bernama
