KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 — Producers should consult the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) for guidelines before making movies or dramas deemed contrary to Islamic values, said Deputy Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari.

He said they should practise self-regulation in film and drama production that delve on culture and beliefs, particularly Islam.

“All entertainment programmes should not violate broadcasting ethics to ensure that viewers could benefit and learn from them,” he said when winding up debate on the Supply Bill 2014 for his ministry at the Dewan Negara today.

He said the ministry would not allow any entertainment programmes that undermine eastern values and have an adverse effect on the community, especially the younger generation.

Citing an example, he said Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) abided by the Broadcasting Code. — Bernama
