KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — The National Security Council (MKN) is all prepared to face the second wave of floods which is expected to occur this Wednesday.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, said they would be better prepared this time than when facing the first wave of floods with all machinery from the agencies already deployed.
“For example, more lorries and boats are on standby. Aid will also be despatched more frequently each day to the evacuation centres supervised by officers from the Welfare Services Department.
“If there are shortages, please immediately inform the district officer, village head or any government officer on duty, besides the police, army, fire and rescue station or Civil Defence Department officers.
“Don’t do anything that can slow down the sending of aid, as the flood victims must be taken care of,” he said after attending a special MKN meeting and briefing at the Parliament building, here, today.
Shahidan said better relief centres had also been identified to temporarily house the flood victims compared to the previous ones chosen following complaints that they were not comfortable and strategic.
He said the Meteorological Department had forecasted the second wave of floods to occur following continuous rain and the high-tide phenomenon, causing flood warnings to be issued.
Shahidan said the areas expected to be affected were Kemaman and Dungun in Terengganu and Kuantan, Pekan, Rompin, Maran and Temerloh in Pahang. — Bernama
