GEORGE TOWN, Dec 13 — The state Irrigation and Drainage Department will conduct a six-month study on the flooding problems at the Bayan Lepas International Airport.

State Federal Action Council chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman said a consultant would be enlisted to conduct the study.

“One of the priorities is to look for ways and means to resolve unexpected flooding outside the terminal in the event of a downpour.” he told reporters after visiting the airport.

“This has been our concern as the airport has been affected by flash floods each time it rained heavily recently.”

The latest incident was on Nov 20, barely two months after one of the airport’s lounges got flooded.

“I hope the state government can cooperate with the relevant authorities to resolve this  problem,” Zainal said.

Zainal’s visit came on the heels  ofr a complaint by DAP’s Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer, who raised concern at the state legislative assembly that no officials from the federal government had visited the airport since the recent two flooding incidents.

Rayer had said the constant flooding was an embarrassment for the state as visitors at the airport were inconvenienced by the problem.
