Flood-hit Terengganu almost back to normal

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — Terengganu has almost recovered from floods while the number of flood victims in Pahang has increased slightly compared to this morning.

In Kuala Terengganu, only 40 people from 12 families were still seeking refuge at three evacuation centres this afternoon compared to 784 (190 families) at 10 relief centres this morning.

The National Security Council (NSC), in its portal, said the situation in the Kemaman district had returned to normal with the remaining 349 victims from 80 families at five evacuation centres allowed to go home.

Hence, all evacuation centres in the district were closed today.

Two districts still inundated were Dungun and Marang with only 18 victims from four families sheltered at two centres in Dungun and 22 victims (eight families) in Marang.

With clear skies, water levels at major rivers in Terengganu have returned to normal.

In Kuantan, although all evacuation centres in Rompin and Temerloh have been closed, the number of flood victims in Pahang rose slightly to 5,515 from 1,391 families from 5,498 this morning.

Pahang Police Contingent flood operation room spokesman said the victims were housed at 57 evacuation centres.

Flood victims in Pekan increased to 3,992 from 3,879 this morning and they were sheltered in 39 evacuation centres followed by Kuantan (736 in four relief centres), Maran (724 in 12 centres) and Bera (63 in two centres). — Bernama
