MALACCA, Dec 11 — The Malacca government today launched a humanitarian aid effort for more than 5,000 flood victims in Pahang.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Harun said more than RM20,000 had been allocated for the aid in the form of clothing and necessities such as water and food.
The aid included 1,000 bottles of mineral water contributed by Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad, 16,000 cups of noodles contributed by Mamee-Double Decker (M) Berhad and 1,000 T-shirts as well as used clothing.
“The state government sympathises with the flood victims in Pahang, especially in the worst-affected district of Kuantan,” he said when launching the aid mission at the Malacca State Development Corporation, here.
Fifty volunteers are participating in the two-day mission from today, comprising representatives from the Melaka Youth Federation Council, local authorities and the Malaysian Armed Forces.
Idris said the aid would be sent in three military trucks from the Terendak Camp here.
He advised the volunteers to take care of their health and guard against getting infected by diseases.
Idris also said that the Melaka Foundation had sent 1,000 chickens to Pekan, Kuantan and Rompin for the flood victims and would send 2,000 more chickens later. — Bernama
