KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 — The number of flood victims in Terengganu rose overnight while that in Pahang saw a drop.
According to the portal of the National Security Council, Terengganu had 15,677 people at evacuation centres this morning, up from the 14,643 last night.
The number of evacuees rose by almost 600 in the Dungun district to 3,288 compared to 2,789 last night while the number of flood victims in Kemaman went up to 1,351 from 790.
In Marang, the number of flood victims doubled to 42 while in Setiu the number dropped to 134 from 149 people last night.
A total 88 relief centres were still operating, 22 of them in Dungun, 27 in Hulu Terengganu, 30 in Kemaman, five in Marang and four in Setiu.
Meanwhile, the State Drainage and Irrigation Department reported that the levels of major rivers in Terengganu were below the alert point this morning.
In PAHANG, the number of flood victims dropped to 5,754 from 6,048 last night, said a spokesman of the Pahang Police.
“Pekan still has the highest number of flood victims, at 3,241, being housed at 37 relief centres,” he told Bernama.
Kuantan has 924 people at six relief centres; Maran, 660 at 12 centres; Temerloh, 518 at 14 centres; Bera, 305 at seven centres; Jerantut, 57 at three centres; Rompin, 33 at two centres and Lipis, 16 at one centre. — Bernama
