KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 — Government-linked companies (GLCs) should focus on empowering Bumiputera small- and-medium enterprises and assist them to contribute at least 41 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product by 2020.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan (picture) said high-performing Bumiputera companies should secure contracts from GLCs and they should compete among themselves.
“The Ministry of Finance will continue to monitor the Key Performance Index and score card of GLC Chief Executive Officers.
“We are confident GLCs will be able to empower the Bumiputera economic agenda and the prime minister will look at their KPI at the year-end,” he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a service agreement between Telekom Malaysia Bhd and Casabello Consortium Sdn Bhd here today.
However, Ahmad Maslan said this did not mean non-Bumiputera companies would be sidelined from the purview of GLCs.
“They can still continue their business or collaboration as usual,” he added.
“We will continue to monitor them maybe every four months, so that we can take quick corrective measures,” he said.
On the signing of the service agreement between Telekom Malaysia Bhd and Casabello Consortium Sdn Bhd, he hoped there would be more such alliances next year.
“I also hope the Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry can also collaborate with GLCs,” he added. — Bernama
