Tun Hanif Omar’s son dies after falling unconscious beside his car

SHAH ALAM, Dec  10 — The son of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tun Mohd Hanif Omar died after falling unconscious beside his car at Jalan Catur 11/1C, in Section 11 here early today.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Zahedi Ayob said in the 4.20 am incident, Ahmad Jamal Omar, 40, was said to have driven his Honda Accord car to send his friend home near the area.

“When they reached the destination, Ahmad Jamal Omar was said to have gotten out of the car, but then fainted and fell beside the car.

“His friend quickly alerted the police about the incident, but Ahmad Jamal Omar was pronounced dead by the rescue squad at the scene,” he told reporters after paying his last respect to Ahmad Jamal at the former IGP’s house at Section 13, here.

Also seen paying their last respects to Ahmad Jamal were the Regent of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah and Raja Puan Besar Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.

Zahedi said the report of the post mortem carried out by Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang, showed that Ahmad Jamal died of brain haemorrhage.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Jamal’s wife Melati Yahaya, 36, said her husband, who was the youngest of four siblings, was recovering from an aneurysm surgery.

The couple has two children, aged seven and six.

Ahmad Jamal was laid to rest at Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery in Kuala Lumpur. — Bernama
